A Penrith man accused of threatening a woman with a knife, punching, a leg stamp and striking her with a suitcase is to stand trial in front of a jury.

Levi Miller, 23, of Bridge Street, faced a total of six allegations when he appeared at Carlisle Court Court.

All arise out of incidents which are alleged to have taken place on May 26 this year.

Two charges allege that Miller assaulted the woman, causing her actual bodily harm: once with a punch to the face which caused her glasses to break; and also allegedly by punching the woman, stamping on a leg and hitting her with a suitcase.

Another charge alleges that Miller threatened her with a knife at an address on Mount Pleasant Road in the Currock area of Carlisle; a fourth charge alleges strangulation; and two more charges allege destroying and damaging property — namely a Seat vehicle, a cooker and internal door.

When he appeared at court, Miller pleaded not guilty to all six charges.

It was agreed that Miller is due to stand trial at the crown court in the week of 30th October, and in the meantime he has been remanded in custody.
