Barrow opened their pre-season programme with a 2-0 win at FC United of Manchester courtesy of two late goals from Tyrell Warren.
He scored in the 78th and 86th minutes as Pete Wild’s men finally got the rewards most of their earlier work had promised but had failed to deliver.
Wild was able to field a different line-up in each half and included were four trialists as the manager still looks for reinforcements.
Home keeper Pat Boyle proved to be their hero, with a number of fine stops throughout the game, the first coming after 12 minutes when Ged Garner curled a volley towards the target and the home gloveman made a fine flying parry.
New recruit Jamie Proctor flicked the ball wide from close range when Barrow continued to force the pace and the hosts were pinned back for long periods.
Yet FC United probably had the best chance to take the lead on 27 minutes when Elliot Morris set-up Jay Fitzmartin in the box but he thumped a shot over the bar from short range.
Ged Garner almost broke the deadlock in the 39th minute but his well struck free-kick hit the bar.
The changed line-up also started positively in the second-half and when Elliot Newby knocked in a low cross Courtney Duffus saw his volley tipped over by Boyle.
Sam Foley had an opportunity after 51 minutes after being cleverly set-up by one of the trialists but he blazed over from close range.
Boyle continued to make some excellent saves and it looked as though he was going to deny Barrow but on 78 minutes he was beaten when Warren knocked home a volley at the back post.
Four minutes from time Foley teed-up the full-back again on the edge of the area and he calmly slotted the ball home into the bottom corner.
