Seaton’s Main Road will be closed to traffic later this month as work gets underway on a £165,000 scheme to improve it.
The road’s surface will be improved, potholes repaired and street lights replaced from July 31, said Cumberland Council, which is co-ordinating the work.
The road will be closed from Jackson Street to beyond the junction with Derwent Avenue and it is hoped it will take two weeks to complete.
There will not be a through route available between Workington and Seaton. A diversion via Lowca Lane will allow alternative access to Seaton.
Street lights between Calva Farm and the access to Derwent Bank will be replaced as part of the work.
The team will also install new school patrol equipment, including new signs and amber warning beacons for the nearby Seaton Junior School.
Access for residents who live next to the work will be maintained whenever it is safe to do so. If any residents or businesses require access to their property, Cumberland Council has asked them to discuss it with the traffic marshal who will be on site during the work.
