Four Cumbrian restaurants have been named among the best in Britain.

The prestigious Good Food Guide has published its list of Britain’s Best 100 Local Restaurants.

Kysty in Ambleside, Four & Twenty in Penrith, The Yan in Grasmere and The Kirkstyle Inn and Sportsman’s Rest in Brampton made the list.

Members of the public nominated each of the 100 restaurants to feature in the list, who in the process registered over 37,000 votes for their favourites.

The tally was confirmed by inspectors from The Good Food Guide, who also visited each restaurant to determine which deserved a place on the final list.

Starting some 13 years ago the list is designed to celebrate the places that are central to the communities they serve across the UK, recognising kitchens that cook fresh to order, offer creative, memorable dishes based on high-quality seasonal and local produce.

Kysty head chef Dan Hopkins said: ‘’We’re all a little bit taken aback at being included in the list of Britain’s Best 100 Local Restaurants, it’s totally unexpected but a wonderful acknowledgement of the hard work and dedication of each and every member of the team at Kysty.

“Everyone makes a significant contribution in delivering excellent food and service in what is an informal and relaxed environment –  all things that have created a recipe for success which sees our guests coming back time and time again.’’

Owner Ryan Blackburn said: ‘’It’s always great to receive recognition for what you do day-to-day, especially when it’s diner led. It makes it even more meaningful, and as such is an accurate reflection of the experience that restaurant manager Laurentiu Bulprich and Dan and their teams aim to deliver for their guests. There’s no doubt at all that this recognition is testament to the hard work and dedication of every member of Kysty’s team in making sure every guest has the best possible experience.”

The Yan said on their Facebook page that they were ‘blown away’ to be included and the Kirkstyle Inn and Sportsman’s Rest said they were thrilled.

Four & Twenty said: “Thank you to all our amazing customers for nominating us and all your support over the years. A massive thank you to our amazing team, Kate, Sophia, George, Steve and Alasdair.”
