Caps have been presented to Cumbria players to mark their selection in keeping with their place in the county’s heritage.
Starting this season players have been presented with numbered caps when playing in the NCCA Durant National Cricket Championships.
The number indicates the order in which players have debuted in the National (Minor) Counties Championship since the County first entered the competition in 1955.
The first of 12 numbered caps were handed out at the start of the current championship game with Bedfordshire at Furness.
Simon Dutton, a former Cumberland captain, handed-out the caps and son Sam Dutton was one of the recipients with number 412.
Matthew Siddall was not playing in the game, because of his selection the following day for Derbyshire seconds, but he was at the Furness ground to receive cap number 437.
Other caps handed out were to: Michael Slack no. 404 (club captain), Matthew Sempill no. 426, Ben Davidson no. 435, Sam Sharp no. 439, Nico Watt no. 441, Drew Postlethwaite no. 442, Ben Walkden no. 449, Freddie Fallows no. 451 (on debut), JJ Fielding no. 452 (on debut), Ed Moulton no. 453 (on debut).
Meanwhile Siddall bowled his first over in 2nd X1 cricket at Belper Meadows yesterday when in a rain affected opening day Notts scored 135-1 in 41 overs before play ended.
The Cockermouth left-arm spinner bowled just one over for Derbyshire 2nds which cost three runs and the fixture has another three days left.
