Kendal Town and Penrith saved last night’s friendly by switching venue late in the afternoon.
With Kendal’s Parkside Road pitch in need of looking after ahead of the new season starting on July 29 the heavy rain caused a rethink.
The game was hurriedly rearranged for the Lancaster University pitch and it was Northern League Penrith who triumphed 3-1 against their North West Counties hosts.
Josh Winder, a recent signing for the Mintcakes had given Kendal the lead but they trailed 2-1 at the break and went on to their first defeat in pre-season.
The two sides could meet again in the second preliminary round of the FA Cup if they both win their opening ties so this was a confidence booster for Penrith, who had won 2-1 at Gretna on Saturday.
Owen Wiggett, 19, a former Carlisle United and Queen of the South reserves player, levelled for Penrith and Robbie Hebson put them in front before the break.
DJ Taylor scored the third Penrith goal to give them more breathing space but they were able to see it through to the end.
