Drainage work on a Carlisle road has been completed a week ahead of schedule.

Contractors, on behalf of Cumberland Council, began work on Newton Road on July 17 and the work was set to finish on July 28.

However, the authority said after it brought in additional resources the team was been able to complete the work a week early and it finished on Friday, July 21.

The road opened from 4pm.

Councillor Denise Rollo, Cumberland Council’s executive portfolio holder for sustainable, resilient and connected places, said: “This is fantastic news, completing the drainage works on Newtown Road a week ahead of schedule is a significant accomplishment. Finishing a project ahead of time not only reflects the efficiency and dedication of the Highways team involved but also brings numerous benefits to the community.

“Early completion means less disruption to the residents and businesses in the area, as they can resume their normal activities sooner than expected.

“I would like to thank the residents and business owners for their patience and invaluable support throughout these improvements. Without their backing, achieving the early completion of this project would not have been possible. I want to especially thank them for their exceptional support during the final 24 hours, which played a significant role in our success.”
