The NCCA Championship game at Bishop’s Stortford petered out into a tame draw as Cumbria were unable to chase a meaningful target.
Hertfordshire declared two overs after tea to set a target of 252 in a little less than two hours.
The players shook hands with 10 minutes (two overs) left of play, with Cumbria on 100-3, after Ben Walkden had struck a maiden Championship half century.
Too much play had been lost on Monday and when they resumed on time yesterday Cumbria could only extend their first innings lead by another five runs to 21 when they were bowled-out for 179.
Hertfordshire, with David Burnell (58) and Aaron Beard (54) top-scoring made 272-6 before declaring their second innings.
In making 100-3 Ben Walkden finished on 55no while Matthew Sempill (3no) remains three short of 1,000 championship runs for the County.
He will have to wait until August 13-15 at Carlisle when Northumberland are the visitors, for the opportunity to achieve that particular milestone.
First on the agenda though is Sunday’s Showcase game at Sedbergh School against Lancashire.
There’s only two changes to the Cumbria side from the one which beat Suffolk to reach the NCCA Trophy final again. JJ Fielding comes in for Marcus Stables and Sam Sharp replaces Chris Wright.
Team: Freddie Fallows, Sam Dutton, Ben Walkden, JJ Fielding, Michael Slack (capt), Matthew Sempill, Ed Moulton, Nico Watt, Drew Postlethwaite (wk), Sam Sharp, Matthew Siddall
