Workington Comets National Development League clash at Leicester Lion Cubs tonight has been postponed.
Heavy rain in the Leicester area caused problems at the track and with too much water, with the forecast for more rain the decision was taken early this morning to call it off.
Team manager James Denham said: “It should have been a double header of course and we were booked into a hotel at Sittingbourne ahead of tomorrow’s meeting with Kent.
“We are going down later to stay there ahead of the meeting as the promotion there are hopeful of the meeting going ahead.
“The weather prospects in Kent are better so we hope to be able to be riding on Sunday.”
Ahead of tomorrow’s meeting Kent have moved to sign 15-year-old prospect Ashton Vale as they head into the final six matches of their NDL season.
The former British Youth Grasstrack Champion finished third in the recent British Youth 500cc Championship behind Ashton Boughen and Jody Scott, and impressed in a recent appearance as No.8 for the Royals against Leicester.
Vale said: “Racing is my life, it’s a family thing for us. My uncle, Rob Mear, rode for Lakeside and Rye House, and my dad (Aaron) raced 500cc sidecars in the European Championship Finals in 2019, and came third in the British Finals in 2019 and 2021. If I’m not doing speedway, I’m racing flat track.”
To accommodate Vale’s signing, the Royals have released Sam Woolley who has been with the club since their switch to Iwade last year.
