South Cumbrian paper maker James Cropper has appointed a new managing director.

Richard Bracewell has taken on the role of managing director, paper products; responsible for the firm’s creative papers and luxury packaging sectors.

The Burneside-based firm said Mr Bracewell will be driving the strategic growth for the paper products division, bringing together the group’s established speciality paper business with Colourform, its award-winning moulded pulp innovation.

He has most recently served as the business transformation lead for speciality paper, where he has been instrumental in repositioning the organisation to ensure long-term differentiation and market competitiveness, James Cropper said.

He held senior leadership positions at Shell before joining James Cropper as marketing director for the speciality paper business in 2017.

Steve Adams, James Cropper CEO, said: “His leadership, expertise, and deep understanding of our business will undoubtedly drive us towards greater achievements.”

In April, the company revealed that it was planning to streamline its business, reducing the number of paper mills at the factory near Kendal and reorganise the existing three divisions into four.

Mr Bracewell will continue to lead the ongoing business transformation programme and ensure its integration into the company’s day-to-day operations, the firm added.

He said: “I’m delighted to have been asked to lead James Cropper’s Paper Products business and to continue to build upon our unique and significant capabilities as a leading innovator.

“The changes that we are making within the business, will help us to accelerate our growth strategy in the manufacturing of bespoke papers and moulded fibre packaging, ensuring that we continue to provide our customers with the highest quality products and solutions.”
