Plans for a huge solar farm in West Cumbria have been revealed.
The farm, on Dean Moor, would also include a battery storage facility and would have the potential to power over 50,000 homes a year, said the developers.
Dean Moor Solar Farm is a joint venture between Firma Energy Ltd and ib vogt UK Ltd, coming together under Firma Vogt Solar.
A consultation will be launched this autumn to gauge people’s reactions to the plan and if it gets the green light by the Government, work to build it could start in 2026.
Between Gilgarran and Branthwaite, the 300 hectare site would include considerable areas for landscape planting and ecological enhancements, Firma Vogt Solar said.
The land is currently used for agricultural grazing and this would continue, it added.
It said it would also offer a £500,000 fund for the local community for projects in the area around the solar farm.
