Roads used by people while the A595 was shut for major repairs will have £100,000 spent on them to improve them.
The cash has come from National Highways, which carried out the A595 scheme near Moresby, and will be used by Cumberland Council for the work.
National Highways organised vital improvement work to the A595’s embankment including surfacing work, pavement work and drainage improvements. The road was closed for 10 weekends for the work to be carried out.
Drivers had to take detours around the closure through villages including Lowca and Low Moresby.
As part of the project, National Highways will also resurface the following sections of road:
- From the A595 to St Bridget’s Church in Lowca.
- From the A595 to Moresby Church on Rosehill
- From the A595 Howgate Roundabout towards Low Moresby Village
Councillor Denise Rollo, Cumberland Council’s executive portfolio holder for sustainable, resilient and connected places, said: “We are grateful to National Highways for their generous contribution, which will be dedicated to enhancing our local highway network.
“The recent improvement project on A595 near Moresby, being a National Highways initiative, reflects our collaborative approach to minimise disruptions for our residents. We are aware that diversions have been necessary during this period, leading to increased traffic on certain roads. This funding will play a crucial role in improving our highway network and addressing any impacts from the recent traffic diversions”.
