
Our featured match in week two of the Carlisle and District Billiards League saw Buffs A visiting Rock A in Division One.
In the first game Dave Currie started brightly with a 19 break, but Brian Sloan responded with breaks of 29,18,18 and 17 to take control and win 100-50.
In the second game Neil Walby used his potting ability to stay ahead of Buffs’ Lawrie Key’s all-round game, winning 100-78.
The third game saw John Metcalfe defeat local legend Bob Sewell 100-92 in a match of classic billiards play.
John Steventon won the fourth game for Rock A, with his tenacity and experience, along with a 20 break, seeing him over the line against Mike Doherty 100-57.
The final game was a close affair after Paul Scott of Rock A got off to a good start, but Tommy Dobson’s excellent red ball play got him back into the game twice from over 20 behind.
With the score on 96-94, Tommy played a remarkable safety shot which allowed him to storm over the line in the next visit for a win by 100-96. It made the final score, Rock A 4, Buffs A 2.
Nigel Lewthwaite of Denton Holme has made the highest break so far, scoring 52 last week. The highest break this week was by Longtown’s Willie Cairns, a superb effort of 46 on his first competitive game in nearly a year.

In the Second Division, Ex C visited Buffs B, and emerged with a 7-0 victory. David Sanderson won the battle of the number one’s in dominant fashion, 80-32 over Peter Dean.
Stuart Burgess had an excellent 21 break during his 80-35 win over John Greenland, and the extra points were secured when Stu Styth won 80-45 over Brian Makepeace.
There was a close game in the number four slot before Peter Marsden emerged victorious over Chris Bray 80-71, and Dave Turley completed the rout with a 80-53 success over Neil Ferguson. Final score, Buffs B 0, Ex C 7
Raymond Swailes of Southend C took the lead in the race for the highest break with a superb 30.
