Workington Comets’ home meeting against Kent Royals this afternoon had to be postponed.
The Northside track had taken considerable overnight rain, and with more forecast during the day, the decision was taken to call it off.
No new date has been arranged for the restaging of the National Development League meeting.
Workington had suffered a postponement last Saturday at Leicester but travelled to Kent on Sunday for their League meeting with the Royals when they went down 50-40.
Comets number one Connor Bailey was in good form for Redcar Bears last night as he helped them to a 58-32 home win over Edinburgh Monarchs in the Championship.
The Australian had five rides, scoring ten points and a bonus. That included two wins, two seconds but a last place in the final race of the night.
However, his night was capped by lowering the Redcar track record. On a night of fast racing at the ECCO Arena, Monarchs skipper Josh Pickering lowered his own record in Heat 4 before British Under-21 Champion Bailey went one-tenth faster in Heat 9.
Former Workington rider Charles Wright scored a paid maximum, eleven plus one bonus from his four rides.
Comets’ youngster Luke Harrison finished second in the reserves race, then had a fall and didn’t score in his last two outings.
Edinburgh number one Craig Cook, the former Workington star, only managed two third places in his four starts – retiring in the other two with bike problems.
Current Comets’ heat leader Ace Pijper was riding for Glasgow last night and helped them to a 55-35 home win against Plymouth.
He won the reserves race, had a second and a third, as well as a last for six points plus two bonus points.
Kyle Howarth, the former Comet, top-scored for Plymouth, with 12 and a bonus point.
Another ex-Workington rider in good form was west Cumbrian Richard Lawson as Poole closed in on Cab Direct Championship leaders Oxford with a 47-43 away win over Scunthorpe in a last-heat decider.
The Pirates fought back from a six-point deficit and took the lead for the first time with a 4-2 from Steve Worrall and Lawson in Heat 13, before Lawson won the final race ahead of Ryan Douglas with Ben Cook in third place.
The result moves the defending champions to within three points of the Cheetahs, with one match in hand. Lawson top-scored with 12 points
