The A road between Longtown and Gretna will close overnight from Monday for improvement work.
Work on the A6071 is expected to last for four nights and the road will close from 7pm to 6am.
A signed diversion will be in place.
Traffic marshalls will be on site at the points of closure during the night and will escort residents safely through the work.
Residents are warned they may have to wait a short time until it is safe to be escorted through the site.
Access will be maintained for emergency services and MOD during the work.
