Miterdale Duchess still in championship picture

Rusland Show hosted a five-card meeting and Miterdale Duchess kept herself firmly in the senior Championship picture.

In a small field of six runners the Duchess was favourite to repeat her success of last year and went off odds on.

As they came back onto the finish it was Miterdale Duchess who won easily from Miterdale Honesty, followed home by Miterdale Dusk.

The win for keeps her in with a chance of catching table leader Winterfell with the difference between the two hounds back to just four points.

Next up was the Open Puppy race again with a small field of ten runners and it was Bill and Pat Mellon and Tina and Robert Airey’s Artist who finished well to win followed home by Foxparke Honk Honk and then Green Queen for Jake and Zac Green.

Denise Bland’s hound Huntsman’s Star finished in fourth with Jonty and Evie Moore and Jack Thompson’s hound Pigeon Bill finishing in fifth place.

The in-form Glamorous Ava could only manage sixth place for James and Ava McClelland.

There was a slightly bigger field of 14 hounds in the Open Maiden race and it was Andy, Arron and Alan Horn’s Intensity that won nicely followed home by Alex Steele and Donna Bingham’s Oakbank Izzy.

Next up was the Open Restricted race with nine runner’s and it was Jenny’s Oracle for Glenis and Raymond Farren who won ahead of Kinniside Bobby in second and Green Flyer in third for Jake and Zac.

The last race of the day was for the Veterans with a good field of hounds and as they came on the finish it was Crazy who was in front and who won nicely for Jonty and Evie Moore and Jack Thompson.

Forlorn Spring for Stuart Jeynes finished in second place. extending his lead in the Veteran’s points competition to 13 clear of his nearest rival Huntsman’s Major who finished in third place.

Today sees a four-card meeting at Wythop with the first trail slipping at 1pm. Then action returns to Rusland on Monday evening with a three-card fixture.

  • Pups – 1. Artist; 2. Foxkparke Honk Honk; 3. Green Queen; 4. Huntsman’s Star; 5. Pigeon Bill; 6. Glamorous Ava. 10 ran, time 19.05.
  • Open Maiden – Intensity; 2. Oakbank Izzy; 3. Eagle Love; 4. Foxparke Dealer; 5. Miterdale Dust; 6. Foxparke Fair Lady. 14 ran, time 18.48.
  • Open Restricted – 1. Jenny’s Oracle; 2. Kinniside Bobby; 3. Green Flyer; 4. Cuckoo Lane; 5. Foxparke Sassy Girl; 6. Eagle Rock. 9 ran, time 16.11.
  • Veterans – 1. Crazy; 2. Forlorn Spring; 3. Huntsman’s Major; 4. Amber Bay; 5. Best Mate; 6. Delta Script. 12 ran, time 17.43.
