Wigton Rugby Union Club is having a special drive to attract more youngsters to the club.
Next month there will be two open days, aimed at youngsters from the age of six to 14.
The invitation for Under-11s is on Saturday, September 9 from 10am and all the other ages on Sunday September 10, again at 10am.
At the moment Wigton run teams from Under-7s up to Under-16s on a Sunday with around 120 youngsters involved.
One of the club coaches James Fitt said: “We’d love to increase that number which is the reason for the two planned open days. It’s aimed at helping kids make new friends, play some rugby, join a team and have some fun.”
The club has a number of specialist coaches working under head coach/director of rugby David Warwick.
Matt Waning looks after the Under 7s/8s; James Fitt has the Under 9s/10s while he and Lee Fizell take the Under-11s on a Saturday.
David Warwick and Gareth Milburne take the Under-13s; Kev Wallace, Steven Brown and Ryan Robertson look after the Under-15s while Tane Manihera and John Armstrong take the Under-16s.
The first games for the various teams will be after the open days.
Regular training is every Sunday when there isn’t a game for the younger age groups (Under 7s to Under-13s) while the Under-15s and Under-16s will train mid-week and weekend if they don’t have a game.
