Workington Reds suffered another poor away day as they went down 3-0 at Bamber Bridge.
The upbeat mood after Saturday’s 2-1 home win over Stafford was shattered by another poor defensive performance.
After the opening 5-0 win over Ashton United, Reds have conceded 17 goals in the next five games and scored only four themselves.
Manager Danny Grainger said after this latest reversal: “It’s about what happens in both boxes and we weren’t good enough in theirs or our own.
“The goals we conceded were criminal and had nothing to do with the way we play our football from the back. Yet at the other end we created chances but couldn’t finish, and that’s the difference.
“People say it was even and not a 3-0 game but it was because they scored three and we couldn’t get one. Conceding three first half goals means you are looking for a miracle to get back into it.
“It is really frustrating because I know what I have in our dressing room and there is enough quality to compete in this League but we are not showing it and are short of belief in themselves.”
Although Reds did have opportunities in the first half they couldn’t be taken and Bamber Bridge showed them how it was done with goals from Harry Scarborough on 25 minutes and Harry Benns after 37 minutes.
To make it even worse Steven Rigg scored an own goal after 39 minutes.
Graiger did make special mention of Conor Tinnion “covering every blade of grass” in his second game in 48 hours and as a result is feeling his back.
He also spoke highly of the second-half contributions from substitutes Ceiran Casson (56) and Connor Hammill (61).
Reds are just above the bottom four and get a break from League action next week when they host Prestwich Heys in the FA Cup.
