Windscale were involved in a goal fest in their midweek Wearside League fixture at Darlington eventually coming away with all three points from a 5-4 victory.
The first half score of 1-1 did not reflect the avalanche of goals that was to come in the second 45 minutes.
Following an even first 25 minutes it was Darlington who opened the scoring. The Atoms regained parity just prior to the break when Matt Pierce headed home a corner kick.
Darlington took the lead again two minutes into second period before man of the match Lewis Jolly tied the scores at 2-2 from the penalty spot.
The hosts took the lead again on two further occasions only to have parity restored again with strikes from Jolly and Pierce to leave all to play for at 4-4.
Jolly and Leo Brennan continued to threaten the Darlington goal, Jolly in particular causing havoc down the left flank.
With six minutes of normal time left Pierce completed his hat-trick slotting home the winning goal.
Despite what appeared to be an inordinate amount of additional time by the match official, the hosts Darlington were unable to breach a resolute defence leaving the victory to the visitors.
Despite only two names on the scoresheet for Windscale, everyone involved, including the three substitutes used, played their part in what was a committed performance thoroughly deserving of the victory.
The Atoms are on the road again on Saturday when they take on Annfield Plain in the Alan Hood Charity Cup.
