Rotherham forward Josh Kayode has signed a season-long deal with Carlisle United – returning for a third spell with the Cumbrians.
The 23-year-old has spent 18-months on loan with the Blues across two separate spells, making a total of 41 appearances and netting 11 times.
The Nigeria-born striker, capped 13 times for the Republic of Ireland Under-21s, is a product of the Rotherham academy, earning himself a long-term deal in April 2021 following a series of impressive loan spells away from the New York Stadium.
His first loan was at Chesterfield as an 18-year-old, and that was followed by a spell in the North East with Gateshead.
His first spell with Carlisle in 2020 was brief, but he scored three times in five League games before returning to Brunton Park to score eight times in 34 League games.
Having impressed in Cumbria, he returned to South Yorkshire to compete for a first-team place and netted his first goal in Rotherham United colours in the Papa Johns Trophy against Crewe Alexandra in January 2022.
Kayode made 29 appearances for the Millers in the 2021/22 season, one of them being a start at Wembley as Paul Warne’s men lifted the Papa Johns Trophy.
He was with MK Dons last season but only played six times and he has made five appearances for his parent club this season, scoring in the Carabao Cup first-round meeting with Morecambe last month. His goal meant the tie went to penalties, which the Millers won 4-2.
