West Cumbrian rider Craig Cook has been suspended for 30 days by the Speedway Control Board.
Cook, a former star for Workington Comets, was said to have withheld his services from his team Edinburgh Monarchs since September 1.
Edinburgh say that 36-year-old Cook has refused to ride for the team in the Championship, breaching SCB regulations.
He had failed to attend a meeting which had been listed on the official fixture list.
The SCB said: “Due to this breach, Mr Cook has received a 30-day suspension of his SCB Registration as of September 1 2023, and Edinburgh have been granted a facility for the same period.”
Cook, a former Moto X rider, burst onto the scene with the Comets in the 2009-10 seasons when he was a hugely talented and promising rider, tipped for future Grand Prix honours.
He subsequently won the Premier League Riders Championship in 2012 when he was first with Edinburgh.
His biggest achievement came in 2017 when he won the British Final and in 2018 he won the Riders Championship for a second time. He has also represented Great Britain at the Speedway World Cup.
But as well as the highs there have been some lows. He has taken time out before because of mental health issues and last month was involved in an horrific accident at his home track of Edinburgh when his bike cleared the fence and a track photographer was injured.
Cook has rarely been competitive since that accident and this suspension will be a sad end to his season.
