Workington Comets were strongly in contention at Mildenhall yesterday when their National Development League clash with the Fen Tigers had to be abandoned.
Ten heats had been completed and the home side held a narrow 30-29 lead when heavy rain called a halt.
A torrential downpour eventually stopped but the damage had been done and parts of the track were waterlogged so there was no other option but to abandon the rest of the meeting and the result will stand.
The Fen Tigers had won 49-41 at Northside earlier in the season so they will take the aggregate point.
It was quite a performance from a depleted Comets side who only had six riders, through the absence of Sam McGurk after his injury at Leicester on Saturday. That was down to five when skipper Luke Crang withdrew after just one ride as he felt the effects of a recurring knee problem.
Of those five, three were guests, leaving only Luke Harrison and Elliot Kelly as members of the regular Workington line-up.
In fact both of them led the scoring for the Comets and both collected points on every visit to the track. Kelly won the reserves race and then had four straight second places while Harrison won two races and also finished second and third.
Ryan Kinsley, guesting for Connor Bailey at number one, only had two races – winning the first race of the afternoon and then finishing second.
Kai Ward, who had also guested at Leicester, recovered from a fall and exclusion in his first race to collect two seconds, but finished with two lasts.
After four heats Workington led 13-10; after seven races were 22-19 in front before two home 4-2s and a shared heat left the Tigers ahead by one when the rain came.
