
Wilko has announced that its Workington store will be among the next to close as the chain continues to wind up.
Its Barrow store was named among 52 stores set to face the axe and is due to stop trading on Thursday and it released a list of the next 124 outlets to close their doors yesterday.
Poundland has agreed to take on the leases of 71 Wilko branches, but none are in Cumbria.
Cumbria also has Wilko branches in Cockermouth, Whitehaven and Carlisle.
A rescue deal for up to 300 Wilko stores across the UK collapsed, it was reported earlier this week.
Doug Putman, who owns HMV, planned to take over the budget high street chain, but rising costs complicated the deal.
B&M had bought 51 stores for £13m, but that it wouldn’t be revealed which had been saved until November.
