Whitehaven are hoping the tide has been turned with two good back-to-back wins after three successive defeats in the West Lancashire League.
After beating Milnthorpe Corinthians 2-1 in the League last Saturday they defeated local rivals Cleator Moor Celtic 3-2 after extra-time in the Fred Conway County Cup on Tuesday.
This afternoon the west Cumbrians travel to Tempest United who are level on points with them but one place better off on goal difference.
After the County Cup victory manager Jon Karl Benson said: “It was a fantastic response from Tracis Fyfe coming off the bench to score his hat-trick. It shows the depth the team has now, even with players missing.
“We have worked hard on our fitness and we expect to be fitter than most we come up against, especially with age being on our side as well.”
Assistant manager Chris Rourke added: “I was extremely proud of the group of players who saw out that mid-week win in awful conditions.
“I’m excited for the rest of the season. I honestly think we’ve another couple of gears to go through. So it’s about unlocking them and pushing on to the end of the season – starting at Tempest United.”
Tempest United are based in Bolton.
