Qzone continue to charge up the table

In Division One of the Carlisle and District Billiards League Qzone continued their charge up the table with a 5-2 win at the Rock.

Rock’s number one Mally Lancaster recorded a big win, 120-66 to put the home side ahead, with a superb break of 59 helping ‘Bomber’ to victory.

Qzone hit back with wins for Giles Finneghan (120-36), Paul Wright (100-23) and Paul ‘Corby’ Corbishley (100-88).

Ste Little pulled a frame back for the home side with a 100-46 victory in the number 5 slot. But Qzone are on fire after a poor start, and a title charge in the second half of the season wouldn’t be a huge shock to anyone in the league.

Other Scores: Denton Holme 2, Buffs 5; Longtown 5, Annan 1; Southend A 4, Rock A 2.

In Division Two Southend come out on top in a tight-fought match at Ex C.

Dave Turley beat Stuart Telford, employing a lot of clever safety and good potting to get the home team ahead early on.

Ex C’s Peter Marsden was unlucky to lose to Harry Ruddick, who produced one of his classy trademark shots to finish the frame.

Stuart Burgess fought hard to stay on Mark Taylor’s coat tails but just fell short, and Southend were ahead.

The crucial tie between Stu Styth (Ex C) and Andrew Foster (Southend) hinged on a brain freeze by Stuart as he forgot to double baulk his opponent when only a score was required. Foster closed out on his next visit and condemned Ex C to their first loss of the season.

Tim Ward got caught in the teeth of a billiards storm with David ‘Sarnie’ Sanderson posting breaks of 20, then a division high break of 44 to easily win the final frame. Final score, Ex C 2, Southend 5. Thanks to Mark Taylor for the report.

Other scores: Eastriggs 6, Cons 0; Ex B 4, Southend C 2; Buffs B 2, Maggies 5.
