Veteran seam bowler Chris Wright, who starred for Cumbria last season, is to stay with Leicestershire.
The 38-year-old was expected to leave Leicestershire and move to Sussex on a two year contract but he has now opted to pull-out of the deal because of family reasons.
Wright was brought into the Cumbria side for their NCCA Trophy campaign, although he was unable for the final against Berkshire because of Leicestershire commitments.
He played three One-Day Trophy games for Cumbria and took six wickets – 3-24 best in the semi-final – and had actually taken a wicket with his first ball on debut against Oxfordshire.
Whether Cumbria are able to include him again next season will depend on his senior cricketing commitments.
Wright has taken 585 wickets in 202 first-class outings, along with 192 domestic white-ball wickets.
Sussex coach Paul Farbrace confirmed his switch was agreed back in June, and it was a “great shame” that “an unbelievably experienced cricketer” would not be able to link up with his squad on the south coast.
Farbrace added: “I know that we beat quite a few counties to his signature and he was one I worked hard to persuade to come to Sussex.
“It is not going to work out for him and his family and that is sometimes the way it works out. He is not going to be able to fulfil the contract.”
