Jim O’Donnell in action for Eastriggs

In the First Division of the Carlisle and District Billiards League table toppers Inter QZone continued their title challenge with a 6-0 home win over Buffs A.

Mike Griffiths got the home side off to a strong start, breaks of 29 and 27 unfinished helping him to a 100-20 win.

Simon Towns was up next, and in a scrappy frame got over the line 100-53 before Ryan Ridding stepped up to play third, and some world class potting put him into a very strong position.

He was 85-41 ahead of counterpart Mike Doherty, before back to back breaks of 18, 12 and 18 from the Buffs cueist applied the pressure.

Ridding is made of stern stuff, and got over the line before the Buffs player’s comeback was complete, winning 100-89.

The fourth frame saw two titans of the local cue sports scene face off with Mike Nixon joining Bob Sewell on the baize.

Breaks of 32 and 38 helped Nixon to a 120-55 win, a superb effort by Nixon against the multiple City champion.

In the final frame, Dave Midgley returned to form, with an excellent knock of 31 near the end of the game leading to a 100-79 success, and a whitewash for the home side.

Other Scores: Southend A 1, Rock 6’ Longtown 2, Qzone 5; Denton Holme 2, Annan 5.

Thanks to Archie Walker of Eastriggs for his report on the second division match between Eastriggs and St Margaret Mary’s.

In a disappointing result for the home team, but full credit to the visitors, the match started off well for Eastriggs in the highest quality and also closest game on the night,

Davy Smith looked well beaten before hitting in an unfinished 15 break to win 80-75.

Maggies equalised straight away with newcomer Monty Stackle hitting a 19 break on the way to dominating his match against Willie Noble.

The away side got their noses in front in the next frame, as Jim O’Donnell had no answers to Trevor Pattinson’s consistent scoring.

Things got worse for Eastriggs as ‘Maggies’ Ian Troughear played an excellent game, knocking in an early 21 break and staying in the lead for the whole frame against Archie Walker.

Finally the home side restored some honour in the final frame as improving Davy Campbell edged out Lawrence Waters.’Maggies’ will be delighted with the two bonus points for winning away.

Other Scores: Ex B 4, Cons 2; Buffs B 1, Qzone Originals 6; Southend C 0, Southend 7.
