Heavy rain over the previous two days caused problems again in the West Cumberland Sunday League.

Three games were called off because of waterlogged pitches including, for a second time, the County Sunday Cup game between Moresby Rangers and Thornhill.

Two President’s Cup-ties also fell victim of the weather – Bluebell v Lowca Pirates and King’s Arms v FC Cosmos.

Tightest game played in the President’s Cup had to be settled on penalties.

Dearham Commercial finished all square with Butchers 1-1 but it was the Maryport side who got through from the spot kicks, winning 4-2.

Josh Patterson had scored for the Butchers and Danny Dryden for Dearham to take the tie to a penalty shoot-out.

Completely at the other end of the scale Premier Division leaders Parkside went through with a 16-1 win over the Royal Oak.

Callum Birdsall (5), man of the match Tom Mahone (4), Tom Ward (2), goalkeeper Craig Devine, Ryan Maguire, Glen Meagan, Jake Martin and Owen Charlton scored the Parkside goals.

Full marks to Royal Oak for keeping going in adversity and getting a consolation goal through Brandon Tolson.

In the Premier Division Northside closed the gap on Parkside with a 7-2 home win against Deer Orchard.

Callum Killick helped himself to a hat-trick while Jamie Bramley grabbed a brace. Goals from Cain Pears and Jamie Glover completed the Northside tally.

Luke Graham and Kyran Bertram scored the goals for Orchard.

Northside have moved to within a point of Parkside and have a game in hand which will all add spice to next week’s game when the two title contenders meet in Workington.

There were two games in Division One to complete the Sunday programme.

Leaders Sun Inn were comfortable 6-0 winners against Flimby Social with Louie Elliot (3), Jackson Slack (2) and Kieron McCluskey providing the goals.

Seaton Rangers beat Swan 4-2 with Guy Richardson scoring a hat-trick for the winners. Dan Graham was also on the mark for Rangers with Jack Pears grabbing two for Swan.

Fixtures for Sunday – Premier Division: Lowca Pirates v Deer Orchard; Moresby Rangers v Dearham Commercial; Northside v Parkside; Thornhill v Bluebell.

Division One – Flimby Social v Swan; Salterbeck v Butchers; Seaton Rangers v Royal Oak; Sun Inn v King’s Arms; The Sun v Senhouse Street.
