A 65-year-old has admitted murdering a man, whose remains were found in Cumbria.
William Wilkinson, of Seafield Road, Blackpool, appeared at Preston Crown Court on Friday, where he also pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice.
Edward Forrester, 55, known as Eddie, was last seen in Blackpool on September 1. He was reported missing the following day.
Extensive enquiries involving specialist search teams, uniformed officers, detectives, search dogs and Cumbria police officers were launched at several locations.
On Wednesday, September 13, partial human remains were found in land off Ashes Lane, Staveley, near Kendal.
They were identified as Mr Forrester on September 16.
Subsequent searches have found further human remains, Lancashire police said.
Wilkinson has been remanded into custody to be sentenced on January 19.
DCI Mark Haworth-Oates, of Lancashire police’s Force Major Investigation, said: “William Wilkinson’s plea is in the face of overwhelming evidence against him.
“Thankfully, his plea will spare Edward Forrester’s family and friends the ordeal of sitting through a trial and listening to the graphic details of how Edward was murdered, and in particular the way in which his body was then dismembered and deposited throughout the Blackpool and Kendal area.
“I hope the guilty plea brings them some small comfort and they will look forward to the case being concluded at sentencing.”
