Workington Reds picked up a huge morale-boosting 3-0 win at Basford United on Saturday.
It was their first League win since the end of September and their disappointing run had included three straight victories.
It was the second of four successive away games with the next coming up this Saturday at Whitby Town.
And if Reds got a boost on Saturday, their net opponents received a massive lift last night when they won 1-0 at leaders Radcliffe Borough.
It was the first time that impressive Radcliffe had been beaten at home this season, and it was down to a penalty five minutes from time.
The winner – stroked home by Jacob Gratton – was very much against the run of play as Radcliffe had dominated throughout.
But Whitby had been reduced to 10 men on 81 minutes when Aaron Haswell was sent-off after being ruled the last defender when fouling a home player. Their penalty award came four minutes later.
Whitby are ninth in the table four points better-off than Reds who are 15th – but the Yorkshire side have played two less games than Danny Grainger’s side.
