Moor Row Community Primary School is holding an open day for perspective parents for children who are eligible to begin nursery from January 2024, April 2024 and also September 2024.

Parents of children starting reception in September 2024 are also very welcome to attend.

The open day is on Tuesday December 5 and there will be three times slots available:

  • 9.30am-10.30am
  • 1.30pm-2.30pm
  • 4pm-5pm

Parents will have an opportunity to:

  • Explore our nursery, reception and early years class
  • Learn about our curriculum
  • Meet our staff
  • Tour the school and outdoor areas
  • Ask questions and find out how to apply

Why choose Moor Row Primary School?

We offer:

  • Small class sizes, allowing extra focus
  • Experienced Early Years staff
  • Outdoor play/learning is a focus across the whole school
  • Village community

As a school we offer a range of extra learning opportunities for our children.

Science/PSHE opportunities

Year 3 and 4 at Moor Row Primary School have been busy making plans to increase the biodiversity and sustainability of their school grounds.

They want to create an outdoor learning area which can be used across all curriculum areas, particularly science.

Following on from their success with the John Muir Award last year where they identified areas that could be improved the children have been busy ordering 125 new trees for their grounds.

As part of the Bright Stars programme they have set up a social enterprise which is asking members of the community and local businesses to either sponsor a tree or name one in memory of someone.

They have also been busy making a variety of bird feeders which are for sale from the school.

They are working in conjunction with Bechtel Cavendish. Money raised will be divided between the School Outdoor Fund and Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice.

The school was also one of only three in Cumbria successful in obtaining a grant from Learning Through Landscapes which meant that the school obtained groundsheets, seating pads, outdoor microscopes, rugs and kneeling pads as well as seed bombs to create a wild flower field.

As part of the grant the staff also attended a bespoke outdoor education course provided by Little Chatters.

The staff planted bulbs and plants in the grounds and came away with lots of practical ideas which they are keen to put in place.

Recently the school became part of the Virtual National Education Park which will allow the children to input data about their environment and compare it with other schools around the country. There are also plans for a seating area with logs and a storytelling chair.

PE/PSHE opportunities

Recently, Moor Row Community Primary School had an inspirational wheelchair basketball workshop with Nat Pattinson, a former world champion wheelchair basketball star.

Nat started the day with an assembly about why he is in a wheelchair and how he went from feeling he had nothing to give to becoming a world class sports star through resilience and practice.

The children then had a go themselves, learning to use the wheelchairs and learning the skills needed to play basketball at the same time.

Each class had the most motivating hour and Nat talked to them throughout, showing them what can be achieved and how anyone can succeed.

As a school our ethos is very much on each child, as an individual, reaching their fullest potential.

We believe in learning for life. We look at the whole child and not just academic progress. We firmly believe each child can succeed regardless of background and ability and consider ourselves a very inclusive school.

Sport is an excellent way to improve both physical and mental health and taking away the barriers to learning is essential to success.

Having someone like Nat coming in to inspire our pupils and teach them that there is more than one way to succeed is a fantastic opportunity for all of us and we feel very honoured that we can give our pupils such opportunities.

We look forward to welcoming you to our open day event on December 5.

No booking is necessary but a quick phone call to the school office would help us with organising refreshments. The school number is 01946 810620.
