According to reports from Ireland, Carlisle United are chasing a 300,000 Euros rated striker.
The Blues are said to be competing with the Belgian club KV Kortrijk for the 23-year-old Bohemians striker Jonathan Afolabi.
New owners the Piatek family have promised to back manager Paul Simpson in the January transfer window as he bids to strengthen his struggling League One side.
The poorest display of the season at Reading on Tuesday, in a 5-1 defeat, left the Blues 22nd in the table and in danger of losing touch with those outside the drop zone.
Carlisle have scored only 15 goals in 19 games so a new striker is top of Simpson’s shopping list.
The Irish Independent has reported that Carlisle United are keen on Afolabi, who notched 20 goals and seven assists in 40 games over the 2023 campaign.
The ex-Southampton and Celtic forward is said to have been the subject of a €200,000 bid from both Carlisle and KV Kortrijk, but Bohemians are set to hold out for €300,000.
Afolabi spent time in Southampton and Celtic’s academies but never played for their senior teams, finding action out on loan in Scotland’s lower leagues with Dunfermline, Dundee, Ayr United and Airdrieonians.
Afolabi looks to have really found his feet in Ireland after a permanent move though.
