Workington Reds, more than most, hope they can dodge the freeze tomorrow and get in a game.
Reds haven’t played at Borough Park since October 21 – playing five away game on the bounce.
Although prospects didn’t look too good early today, Reds are banking on an overnight thaw with rain forecast in Workington tomorrow.
They are due to entertain Hyde United in the NPL Premier Division, buoyed by a run of three unbeaten games on the road.
When Hyde won 3-1 against a depleted Workington side at Borough Park in the FA Trophy on October 7 few would have guessed they were about to go on a winless run of five games (which included just one draw).
They came out of the slump with a 3-0 win at Basford United and since then have chalked up 1-1 and 4-4 draws at Whitby and Marine respectively.
Danny Grainger has been delighted with the way his squad have responded over the last few weeks.
“We had a real heart to heart about what had been going wrong and the way the lads have responded has been terrific.
“I couldn’t have asked any more of them and they have had their rewards on the field,” he said.
New recruits Camron Gbadebo, Joe Bunney and Dannan Francis have fitted in seamlessly and the return to form of Brad Hubbold has also been a key factor.
Certainly the manager is desperate to get a game tomorrow and will be keeping everything crossed that the forecasters are going to be right with a prediction of cloud and rain.
