Kendal Business Improvement District is set to bring plenty of festive cheer to the town and its traders this month.
It is organising a special Christmas Celebration in Kendal Market Place and in Finkle Street on Saturday, December 9.
The event will feature about 20 stalls selling festive gifts, crafts, food and drink.
Santa will be on hand in his grotto and other entertainment on the day will include Christmas music.
“It is the first time we have organised such a celebration,” said Peter Brendling, the manager of Kendal BID, which aims to support businesses in Kendal and boost the local economy.
“We really want to develop Kendal as a festival town. The aim of the celebration is to bring something new to Kendal for the community and for local businesses. We hope it will encourage more people into the town to have a great festive day out and to spend their money locally.
“The more events we can put on in Kendal, the more the town will become known as a destination, rather than somewhere to drive past on the way to the Lakes.”
Stallholders at the Christmas Celebration include:
- 19 The Wine Bar, of Lowther Street, which will be selling mulled wine and other drinks
- Pappy’s Texas BBQ
- The Coast Office, which will be selling a range of local crafts and gifts from small and micro businesses

- Anne’s Sunshine Designs, which will be selling handcrafted bracelets and necklaces
- Westmorland Drinks, which will be selling infused gin, vodka and brandy
“We hope the event will create greater footfall in Kendal and will boost the sales of both stallholders and other businesses in the town,” said Mr Brendling.
The Christmas Celebration will take place between 10am and 8pm on Saturday, December 9.
The Christmas Celebration follows the highly-successful Kendal Live Music Festival, also organised by Kendal BID, held on October 6 and 7. That involved about 100 bands and acts performing across around 20 venues in Kendal – with about 200 performances in total.
“The live music festival went really well and was extremely busy and had grown hugely since our first such event in 2022,” said Mr Brendling.
