Cumberland FA’s football development officer Helen Aitchison has completed a very special challenge to help the British Heart Foundation.
She undertook a challenge in memory of the Cumberland FA’s late chairman Fred Conway to run 50 miles and cycle 50 miles during the 30 days of November.
The mileage was chosen to tie in with the 50 for 50 campaign, where Cumberland FA are encouraging 50 teams (or clubs) to raise or donate £50 during this football season to support the British Heart Foundation.
Helen completed the challenge on Thursday November 30, with a total of 51.63 miles run and 52.13 miles cycled.
She said: “I am delighted to get to the end of November having completed the challenge. But to be honest, not completing it was never an option, especially as it was in Fred’s memory and knowing I was, and still am, raising money for this vital cause also helped me get out of the door some days.”
Helen has so far raised £190 for the British Heart Foundation.
During October Cumberland based clubs got behind the partnership with the British Heart Foundation to raise the awareness of the 15-minute free CPR training through Revivr.
They also joined the 50 for 50 campaign to help raise funds for their ground breaking research.
Cumberland FA have been delighted to welcome on board the following teams and clubs who are supporting the season long partnership with a number of clubs already raising vital funds for the British Heart Foundation as part of the 50 for 50 campaign.
Abbeytown Ladies, St Joseph’s Walking Football Team, Whitehaven AFC and Workington Reds Ladies have added their fundraising to the Cumberland FA and BHF Just Giving Page.
Abbeytown Ladies raised £185 at one fixture selling teas and coffees while Workington Reds Ladies have donated £50 from a recent fixture with information included in their match day programme.
St Joseph’s Walking Football team also donated following the recent Cumberland FA Walking Football League event with Whitehaven AFC giving £50 towards the total.
