Wigton earned a bonus point win by 29-7 against a physical Windermere side in challenging conditions at Lowmoor Road.
The weather was a factor in this Counties 1 Cumbria clash and for the first 30 minutes Wigton tried to off-load the ball as they have done all season it led to many handling errors which gifted Windermere field position.
The first 20 minutes were scoreless but then from a line-out near the Wigton line Windermere rounded off a sustained spell of pressure with a converted try.
This sparked Wigton into an immediate response and from several phases veteran forward Robert Jackson crashed over under the posts and Elliot Armstrong added the conversion.
This was quickly followed by winger Robbie Pattinson being put into space to score a second try and give Wigton a 12-7 interval lead.
At the start of the second-half Wigton had the elements with them and the growing maturity of the team saw them use it to good effect.
Kicking into the back-field to gain good positions they then chased well and put pressure on the Windermere back three. With this came strong, more direct carries and no offloads allowing them to dominate possession.
After an initial line break by Cory Broach and good support play, he was able to finish off in the corner.
The last 15 minutes saw Wigton secure the bonus point with two tries by Elliot Armstrong, one of which he converted.
Overall Wigton were pleased with the win and the experience gained in the tough conditions which will serve them well in the future.
The man of the match award, chosen by Dodd and Co Accountants went to Elliot Armstrong.
The Greens play their final game of the year on Saturday when they travel to Egremont.
