Kendal Town returned to winning way last night with a 4-2 win at Squire’s Gate in the North West Counties Premier Division.
It was after a dominant performance, too, which lifted the Mintcakes back into the play-off positions as they sit fifth, five points behind leaders Wythenshawe.
Jimmy Marshall’s men had to recover from a low start when they conceded on six minutes and after a frantic first-half led 3-2 at the break.
They controlled the second-half after scoring the only further goal seven minutes after the re-start.
James Hughes had shocked the visitors with the opening goal but James Bailey (16) levelled and Jacob Gregory put them in front on 41 minutes.
Squire’s Gate found an equaliser on 43 minutes through Nathan Cliffe but in the third minute of stoppage time Rob Wilson pushed Kendal back into the lead. Martin Grundy headed a fine fourth early in the second-half.
Manager Jimmy Marshall said: “It was really pleasing to get four goals away from home and collect the three points.
“I thought we could have been out of sight in the first-half so the disappointment was that it was only 3-2 at the break.
“We’ve had a few postponements recently so I was worried about our sharpness but that was fine and that’s credit to the way the lads have been training.”
Kendal are back at Parkside Road on Saturday with a home tie in the Macron Cup against Atherton LR.
