Whitehaven have the opportunity to record a first Championship double on Saturday when they host Goole Vikings at the Ortus Rec.
A fine 36-22 win in April on Humberside has set up the opportunity for that double, with morale boosted by last week’s excellent win over Swinton Lions.
There’s just one name missing from the squad selected for that Swinton game – forward Woody Walker who has returned to Castleford after a one week’s loan.
There is a possibility, however, that he could come back on loan for the rest of the season.
Coach James Newton was full of praise for his players after they came from a slow start to turn things round against Swinton and win well.
“There’s a buzz around the club at the moment and a great togetherness among the players, so we are in a good place but have to keep on improving.
“There were areas against Swinton which we need to put right and that’s what we have been working on during the week,” said Newton.
The 19-named players are: Bickerdike, Brennan, Brown, Burns, Callander, Eccleston, Holgate, Holliday, Kellett, McQuistan, Newbegin, B. Pearce, J. Pearce, Shackley, Smith, Todd, Walker, Weatherill, Williamson.
