A man has been arrested after concerns he had a gun in West Cumbria.
Police said the man had been arrested on suspicion of malicious communications.
It is understood organisations and schools in the area were contacted yesterday, Thursday January 4, and told by a man that he had access to a firearm.
Cumbria police said: “While enquiries are still underway, there is no indication at this point that the individual ever had access to a firearm.
“There is no threat to the public.
“Officers will be speaking to those organisations affected by this incident to offer reassurance.”
It is believed schools, including Frizington Primary School and Westlakes Academy in Egremont, enacted emergency lockdown procedures.
