Hound trailing numbers rise for 2024

The 2024 puppy registrations in the Hound Trailing Association have been released and numbers are up on last season.

A total of 62 hounds have been registered for the two Produce events with 32 dog pups and 30 young bitches, while 10 non-Produce pups have been confirmed with five dogs and five bitches.

Last year there were the same number of Produce bitches (30) but only 22 young dog pups were registered. There were nine Non-Produce youngsters – five bitches and four dogs.

Interestingly the 2023 senior champion Winterfell will have his first runners as a sire – six pups but all are in the Non-Produce section. They are the product of a litter out of Maggie’s Dream.

Three are staying in Yorkshire with the champion’s trainers – the Bell family – dogs Baz and Ben, and bitch Lassie.

Minnie Million will be trained by Toy and Brian Lister of Aspatria while owners of Winterfell, Barry Laidler and Caroline Clough will run Snowfell.

The sixth Black Eyed Bill will be owned and trained by D Parkin, N, K, J and D Lyon and D McClean, of Grange-over-Sands.

The powerful Dearham kennel of Joe Abram and Nicola McMaster had a wonderful season, clinching the puppy title and the Produce double – but have only one pup registered in the Produce, to Darren McMaster, Anthony Skelton and Sadie Wilson.

However Darren has one of the Non-Produce dogs registered in his own name – Charlie Boy who is out of Delta Script by Castle Clansman. 

One of the biggest teams is held at the Foxparke kennel at Coulderton and they, too, had a splendid 2023 season. Only four pups, though, for them in 2024 all by their own Foxparke Billy Elliot and out of Jenny’s Aura – Foxparke Elliot’s Lass, Foxparke Homeward Polly, Foxparke Toot Toot, Foxparke Elliot’s Lad.

Others in a big litter will also be involved in 2024 action with Les Reid and Ellie Napier (who is part of the Foxparke kennel) have Meg; brother Graham Reid has Good Enough; the Green brothers Jake and Zack have Green Power; Martin, Molly and Teddy Burrow have Thorn Sass; Dennise and Jenny Bland with G. Little and E. Crosby have Huntsman’s Tramp while A, S, S, K, A Steele and M Mawson will be running Miterdale Rumble.
