Community Catalysts are building a network of small community enterprises that can offer help and care to people in the local community.

Through a partnership with Westmorland and Furness Council and Cumberland Council, we are working with local people to develop new enterprises throughout Cumbria, that can provide help and care to older and disabled people in their homes.

The support is free to access as part of this exciting initiative funded by Westmorland and Furness Council and Cumberland Council.

There are currently over 50 people running their own small enterprise throughout Cumbria, who enjoy the opportunity of running their own business which is flexible and fits around family life, hobbies, and interests.

Running a community enterprise, you could make such a difference to people’s lives, enabling them to be more independent when they need help with things, such as cleaning, cooking, or help with washing and dressing and taking trips out in the local area.

We offer clear and simple guidance, help to put all the essential paperwork in place and connect with relevant organisations.

Michelle is one of many people who was helped by Community Catalysts.

Michelle said: “I absolutely love what I do now, helping people stay living independently at home and supporting them to choose what their care and support looks like. I have met so many wonderful people who I enjoy getting to know, finding out about them and what their interests are.

“I love working with people and their families, to help them to continue living happy and meaningful lives.

“I really welcomed the one-to-one support available from Community Catalysts to help me set up my own enterprise, so I knew exactly what I needed to do to ensure I could offer a high quality, professional service.”

Hannah Turner, who runs the Community Catalysts scheme in the Eden area, said: “Lots of people in Cumbria need some extra help to live the way they want to, perhaps because they are older, disabled or have a long-term health condition.

“If you are interested in setting up a community enterprise, maybe on your own or with others, offering care and support in Eden or South Lakes, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. You don’t need any care or business experience, just to know what good care looks like.”

If you would like to receive more information regarding the program, or to have an informal chat regarding the opportunities available, visit https://www.communitycatalysts.co.uk/project/work-for-yourself-care-help-at-home/#Top or contact via email at [email protected] or call 07435 943901.
