Plans have been lodged by a Kendal housing charity to provide emergency accommodation in the area.
Manna House wants permission for a pod at the Stephenson Centre on Ann Street to house one homeless person in emergencies following a one-year trial.
The pod has a single bed and chemical toilet and is lightweight so can be moved easily.
The charity said it had identified the need for short-term, overnight accommodation which can be accessed by vulnerable individuals out-of-hours in bad weather.
Manna House has been providing support to homeless and vulnerably housed residents in the South Lakeland area since 2002.

The charity said: “Manna House operates in an area that most people, including many local people, do not realise has a hidden and growing problem of homelessness and a more general issue of access to affordable housing for local people.
“The area experiences problems of rurality with its attendant difficulties of access to services and a general low level of service provision.”
During the trial of the pod, 16 people used the pod and it was in use for 117 nights from February 1 2023 to November 7.
The charity added there were no incidents concerning the accommodation and its guests during that time.
The charity has applied to Westmorland and Furness Council for permission.
