Cumbria’s Coastguard teams are on the hunt for new recruits.
Whitehaven, Maryport and Millom’s rescue teams are looking for new volunteer rescue officers to help save people in distress around Cumbria’s coast.
Rescue officers can be called out to a range of situations from mud to cliff and water rescues as well as to searches for missing people.
While it is a voluntary role that is not paid, team members can claim a small amount for their time and expenses.
HM Coastguard is the UK’s 999 maritime and coastal emergency service and rescue officers regularly save lives.
Last year alone, Whitehaven’s Coastguard Rescue Team dealt with 71 separate incidents and rescued and helped a total of 86 people.
Over 12 of the incidents alone involved a helping to get a casualty evacuated to safety.
Volunteers are able to give back to the community in a role that is both rewarding and respected.

Recruitment will close on Wednesday January 31.
Successful candidates must be available for mandatory training in Whitehaven on the following dates: May 7 to May 10 2024 and June 10 to June 14 2024.
