
Parts of Cumbria are being blanketed by snow as the temperature drops in the county.
While parts of Cumbria – like the west coast – appear to have some snowfall this morning turning to rain, other areas are experiencing consistent snow and freezing temperatures.
The snowy weather is expected is continue this week.
Roads
Cumbria police said drivers should give themselves plenty of time to prepare their vehicle and make sure they can see clearly before setting off. Road users are also asked to take extra care on the roads and drive to the road conditions.
Watch out for ice on any untreated surfaces.
No major issues are being reported at this time.
Police have also received reports of several cars stuck due to icy road conditions on Asby Road in Asby.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes where possible.

Gritting
Gritters were out yesterday to help keep main road links clear. The night shift were back out on the priority network again before temperatures were set to drop later on yesterday.

Schools
Schools were closed yesterday in the county due to the snow.
Schools closed today
- John Ruskin School in Coniston issued a closure notice because of extremely icy, unsafe conditions on access road and parts of the school site.
- Langdale CofE School, Ambleside
Culgaith CofE School said it was closed until further notice.
The schools closed yesterday were:
- Kirkland Church of England Academy in Frizington.
- Old Hutton CofE School, Kendal.
- Thwaites School in Millom is closed.
- Selside Endowed CofE Primary School in Kendal is closed.
- Great Corby Primary School
- Penruddock Primary School
- The Lakes School, Windermere
And although it says they are due to reopen today, it is unclear whether this will be the case. People are urged to check with their children’s school.

What does the weather forecast currently look like?
The Met Office has now removed the snow and ice warnings in place for Cumbria.
Temperatures are set to remain low for the rest of the week, with some areas likely to reach lows of minus six in the early mornings moving up to minus two degrees around noon.
The forecaster has also confirmed that Shap recorded the lowest temperature in England on Tuesday night at a whopping minus 10.4 degrees.
Keswick and Carlisle also reached lows of minus six degrees on Tuesday night while the west coast of the county only reached lows of minus three.
Cumbria Police have issued advice warning people to be mindful of cold temperatures overnight causing icy road conditions for morning driving.
Fiona Foy in Windermere says: “Not a day for going anywhere! And still snowing hard . Even the gas men working on Rayrigg Road have gone home!”
