Three Barrow players have triggered clauses in their contracts to extend their stay at the club until the end of next season.
Elliot Newby, Paul Farman, and club captain Niall Canavan have all recently surpassed an appearance-related clause in their contracts to automictically extend their deals at the Bluebirds for another season.
Farman is currently the Bluebirds’ second longest-serving player in the current squad having joined in the summer of 2021.
Since then, the 34-year-old has established himself as one of the most reliable shot-stoppers in the division and has kept 41 clean sheets in 128 matches.
Speaking about his contract extension, Farman said: “I’m obviously buzzing to trigger my deal by playing so many games over the few years I’ve been here.
“It’s got better and better every year and when the Gaffer and Temps [Adam Temple] came in they promised the club would keep getting better, and since they’ve come in we’ve come on leaps and bounds as a club, as a community and as a team.”
Skipper Canavan originally joined the Bluebirds on transfer deadline day in January 2022. The 32-year-old came to Barrow as a highly-rated centre-back who had played across all three divisions in the EFL. He’s now made over 100 appearances for the Bluebirds and contributed towards nine goals in that time.
Canavan said: “I’m really happy, I obviously knew at the start of the season that it was something that was available for me, so I’ve been really keen to get that done and I’m extremely happy to be a part of what we’re building here.
“There’s been a lot of change since I’ve come in, a lot of differences both on and off the pitch but I’ve really enjoyed it. When I came in, I knew it would be a different kind of challenge to what I’m used to but I’ve enjoyed it all and I’m looking forward to what the future holds.”
Newby came through the ranks at Barrow before moving onto a series of new challenges in Non-League which included a National League title at Stockport County.
After six years away, manager Pete Wild brought Newby back home last January where he has thrived in his system, proving to be a real threat down the left wing. This season Newby has made 31 appearances and recorded an impressive six assists.
Speaking about extending his stay with his boyhood club, Newby said: “It feels great, I’ve obviously really enjoyed my time since coming here and this season has especially been really good and a really enjoyable season so I’m really happy.
“As a fan myself seeing attendances increase and seeing all the new fans coming to games to support us has been fantastic and there’s a really big feel-good factor around the club right now and I’m buzzing to continue my journey here.”
