The Civil Nuclear Constabulary is a unique armed police force.

Our core focus is the security of the nation’s nuclear sites and nuclear material in transit, both nationally and internationally.

As Authorised Firearms Officers (AFO), we are proud to be part of the wider policing family and have a duty to protect the public, both through our core role; helping to patrol the communities who live near our sites; and as a key part of the UK’s strategic armed policing reserve.

We are now recruiting for AFOs to join our ranks at Sellafield.

Initial Foundation Courses are taking place across 2024 with places available in April, June and October.

If you are physically fit, have a driving licence with fewer than six points, and willing to undergo both police and National Security Vetting (which look into your previous interactions with the police, your financial position and who your family and associates are), then this could be the career for you.

In exchange, we offer a starting salary of £28,551 rising to £46,044 after seven years, the opportunity to branch out into different specialisms (including dog handler, police medic and our Strategic Escort Group), overtime and 22 days of annual leave, which increases to 25 days after your two-year probation.

There’s also the chance to maintain your fitness levels with time allocated to our on-site gyms as part of your working day.

And, we offer a generous 20.8% employer pension contribution, and free access to our award-winning occupational health team, which includes doctors, nurses, a psychologist, physiotherapy and health technicians.

To find out more about the careers we have available, visit www.cnc.jobs or you can email [email protected] to speak directly with someone at Sellafield to find out more.

Training programmes for new recruits are taking part throughout 2024, with application deadlines as follows:

  • Initial Foundation Programme 100 takes place in April. Apply by February 14.
  • Initial Foundation Programme 101 takes place in June. Apply by April 8.
  • Initial Foundation Programme 102 takes place in August. Apply by June 6.
  • Initial Foundation Programme 103 takes place in October. Apply by July 9.
