A West Cumbrian theatre school has scooped a top accolade in the franchise’s national awards.
Razzamataz West Cumbria took centre stage and won Best Showcase Award at an annual conference and awards for the Dragons’ Den backed theatre school franchise network.
Over 60 Razzamataz theatre schools were eligible to take part – but judge’s said the West Cumbrian arm stood out for its excellence in diversity and inclusion, collaboration, creativity, staging, costumes, and PR and marketing.
Awards host and production company owner Matt Lee-Alliston, had the difficult task of selecting the winner. He said: “Creativity, dedication and talent are just a few of the ingredients needed to produce a Razzamataz show.
“As a judge of this award, every year I am in awe of the principals and their commitment to producing theatre pieces that not only are exceptionally good, evidenced by the amazing reviews, but also make a significant impact on the local community.
“What stood out for me the most was this one simple statement. The children’s faces say it all. Everybody was smiling and just doing what they love. If this doesn’t succinctly describe what every child should be feeling when they are on the stage, then I don’t know what does.”
The Best Showcase Award category is very competitive and the Razzamataz West Cumbria team had to ensure that the showcase was fun and a positive learning experience for all children.

Matt added: “This achievement is a testament to the commitment and passion of Principal Matty and the entire Razzamataz West Cumbria team.
“Their dedication to fostering a positive and inclusive environment where every child can shine on stage truly embodies the spirit of Razzamataz,” Matt added.”
The theatre school’s ‘Thank you for the Music’ showcase was held at the Carnegie Theatre & Arts Centre in Workington.
Over 140 students ranging from the youngest Mini through to Juniors, Inters and Seniors were involved.
Matty Rayson, principal of Razzamataz West Cumbria, said: “The most important part of all of this is the recognition for my students, and this award proves how committed and hardworking they all are.
“I was delighted to receive this award on their behalf, and it has inspired me and my team to reach new levels going forwards.”
Razzamataz students have opportunities to perform both on a West End stage and at local community events. There are also several scholarship opportunities available.
