Roads affected by heavy snow Cumbria

Roads in Cumbria are still being impacted by heavy snow.

Westmorland and Furness Council said routes on high ground in Alston, Kirkby Stephen and Penrith are being affected by snow drifts.

Crews are currently working around the areas to clear remaining snow before tomorrow.

The B6276 both ways has been reported as still just passable due to snow from Black Bull Lane (Brough) to Grassholme Lane.

National Highways North West has now reopened A66 both ways from the A685 Brough to the A67 Bowes – which has led traffic becoming stranded on the

The A686 from Alston to Melmerby has now reopened along with the B6276 from Helbeck to Grassholme Lane – where cars were stranded this morning.

Kirkstone Pass from Brotherswater to the summit was closed last night and is still closed this afternoon.

Cumbria Police have issued a warning asking drivers to avoid travel to the area and take alternative routes instead.

The closures will be reassessed throughout the day.

People planning to travel this evening in affected areas are asked to do so with care.
