Kendal Town got their season back on track with a superb 5-0 win at Longridge Town.
It was their first win of 2024 and included a hat-trick from recent signing Matt Dudley who has now scored five times in the last two games.
Manager Jimmy Marshall said: “It’s been tough not being able to win a game since the end of December, and you do start to question yourself.
“But I think the staff and the players are a tight knit group and have stuck together well to get through this tough spell.
“It really was a great performance because it’s never easy to come to Longridge and win. They are a very competitive side so to be four goals up at half-time was a great effort.”
Although they led 4-0 at half-time, and Longridge had a man sent-off five minutes into the second-half, Kendal did not add their fifth until the last minute of time added on.
The excellent Dudley headed home to complete his hat-trick.
Dudley (2), Jim Craig and Finley Lynch scored goals in the first-half and Dudley also had a penalty saved by the Longridge keeper.
Kendal take a break during the week and will be in good heart for Saturday’s Macron Cup quarter final when they entertain Chadderton.
They are looking to go one better than last year when they got as far as the semi-final.
But Chadderton will be tough, lying third in the table 12 points better off than sixth-placed Kendal and from two less games.
