
Whitehaven Miners Social have reached the semi final of the Fred Conway County Cup.
They joined holders Workington Reds and Carlisle United with a comfortable 7-1 win at Alston Moor.
Goals from Jamie Thursby (3), Kyle Newberry, Alex Parr, Paul McNally and Owen Woods saw the County League side through to a clear-cut victory. Aaron Collier scored Alston’s consolation goal.
In the Cumberland County League Premier Division Maryport Athletic kept up their run of good form by beating Unisun Athletic 3-2 at the Sheepmount in Carlisle.
Ciaran Laverty, Callum Casson and an own goal helped Maryport to their sixth league win of the season. Aaron Roberts and Tom MacDonald were on the scoresheet for Unisun.
Wigton Harriers and Workington Reds Development played out a 2-2 draw with Chad Grisdale and Jack Dunstan scoring for the Reds with Louie Elliot getting a brace for Wigton.
In Division One, goals from Callum West, Richard Bannister, Jamie Little, Bradley Fearns, Charlie Robson and an own goal gave Keswick a 6-0 victory against Silloth.
Meanwhile, Cockermouth extended their lead at the top with a 5-2 win against Dearham United.
Doubles for Mark Campbell and Kane Tinnion with Dan Dobson also netting provided the goals for Cockermouth. Alfie Green and Kyle Adlard scored Dearham’s goals.
Goals from Kieran Frazer, Harry Hodgson and Jordan Bowness helped Windscale Reserves to a 3-2 win against Mirehouse whose goals came courtesy of a Ryan Smith brace.
The group stage of the Ken Glover Memorial Cup also kicked off this weekend with Aspatria hosting Cleator Moor Celtic Reserves.
It was the home side who secured the first win in this season’s competition with a 3-1 victory with goals from Andrew Trestianu, Kieran Mcluskey and an own goal.
Kieran Maguire grabbed the Celtic goal.
